Added a second story to my place. Nina was great to work with. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted and she was able to make it come to fruition. She had great input in the areas where my vision could use some tweeking, or where what I was envisioning was not going to work. Very happy with the finished product.

When I moved into my new (1995 vintage) house, the upstairs bathroom was very dated and the tub had a crack. The laundry room was quite literally a closet - nothing more than the washer and dryer on a dumpy pedestal. It was dark and dreary. I hired Nina at Island Architecture to do the plans to entirely remodel these two rooms, including adding a skylight in the laundry, as well as a few cabinetry items and changing out a shower in another bathroom. Nina was very responsive, efficient and very reasonable. I only wish I had the money to do a few dozen other improvements on the house!

Nina went above and beyond to get me a permit through the city for my remodel project. She asked all the questions I would never have thought to ask. She is a Gem. I will definitely look for her when I start my next project.

I hired Nina at Island Architecture for a much needed home remodel project. Nina met with me several times to go over ideas for updating the kitchen and master bathroom as well as finishes throughout the main level of the house. Not only did the kitchen have a poor flow, it was very outdated. Her redesign of the kitchen provides a much better flow for cooking and entertaining. It truly is a work of art. The master bathroom needed a lot of work. The updated design is a dream! I found Nina to be efficient and knowledgeable. Her design turned out beautifully. I am very happy with the work Nina did on my house. I highly recommend her. Thank you for your Nina!

The kitchen in our 2008 house never worked well. It was not small, but the layout of the appliances, cabinets and work spaces were poorly planned and inefficient. It lacked natural light, and the over-use of cherry on the floors and cabinets, coupled with dark granite countertops, made the kitchen read as gloomy and uninviting.
We researched and selected a respected local contractor to do the remodel, and found an experienced custom shop for the cabinets. What stopped us from moving ahead was that nobody could come up with a plan to resolve the awkward layout of appliances, work spaces, and overall aesthetics of the kitchen we dreamed of.
Our contractor recommended Nina Le Baron and her firm, Island Architecture. From our very first meeting, it was clear that Nina could see ways to resolve the problems that seemed intractable to other designers we had spoken to. She designed a new layout that kept the (few) things we liked about the old kitchen, but magically fixed every other issue that made us frustrated whenever we cooked or entertained.
Nina approached the design challenges methodically, and very clearly communicated questions and choices for us to make before finalizing the plans and submitting them for project permitting. She recommended finishes for floors, cabinets, counters and wall surfaces, and became a valuable sounding board to help us make the best choices among seemingly endless options.
In the end, we love, LOVE our new kitchen! All the frustrations of the old one have disappeared, and once again we are able to enjoy the experience of preparing creative meals and entertaining friends and family in this light, bright, artistic space. I wholeheartedly recommend Nina Le Baron and Island Architecture for kitchen, bathroom, and all types of remodeling and construction projects.

What a positive experience we have had with Nina LeBaron at Island Architecture! She really understood our vision for our cottage with detached garage. Being restricted to only 1000 square feet of living space, she found us more square footage by learning that if the laundry/mud room contains the tankless water heater and electric panel, with no sink, it can be called the mechanical room and that square footage does not have to be counted. She created the space and light we were looking for with the vaulted ceiling in the living space and plenty of windows all around. She also suggested an outdoor fireplace on the covered porch, so we can continue to enjoy the outdoors on those cooler days. Weve appreciated her promptness on returning emails and phone calls. We could have gone with a draftsman to do our plans, but are so happy we found such a capable architect in Nina. She really will work with you to make your dream build a reality.

Nina has been great working with me on my project. She works quickly, responds to email in a timely manner, and is also very sensitive to staying within budget. With that said, she is also very creative and will go above and beyond trying to find options to fit your budget, even if that means that things are built a little different. For example, I'm remodeling a home in the San Juans. The quote from the contractor for a new roof and walls was very high and not in budget, but Nina was able to find a company that uses SIPS that was way cheaper and within budget. This is just one example of how she thinks outside the box and can maximize your money and how far it can go. I'd highly recommend her to anyone looking to build or do a remodel.

We just got the plans from Nina for our renovations. She has awesome designs and plans, easy to work with. We would use her again.

Knowledgeable and skilled architect. Nina took my basic idea of a floor plan and turned it into an aesthetically pleasing structural design that incorporates all my "must haves". She was very patient and professional during the process that was at times confounded by my own indecisiveness and questioning nature. Nina went the extra mile on multiple occasions helping navigate the entire permit process with the county (a God-send!; never would have happened without her). Highly recommended.

Nina is an amazing designer! We have been very pleased with her ability to get design options to us so quickly. She is very detailed oriented and listens to her clients. She has amazed me with her ideas, keeping my thoughts in mind and cost down. I have worked with many architects and her timing and prices are extremely fair. Thank you Nina....

I hired Nina to draw up plans of an existing building so I could get a building permit from the city of Mount Vernon. Nina went above & beyond what I hired her to do, she became the liaison between me & the city. When I couldn't get the answers she did!! The permit process was so agonizing but she has a way to get the answers & keep the ball rolling. I was so lucky to find her ,I will be using her again when I open my next store. We are working with Nina on a condo buidling remodel. Nina has been very responsive to our ever changing requests. She is quick at getting back to us and always follows-through. The most exciting experiences were the times on Zoom when we talked through our ideas and alterations to the plans and we watched Nina make the changes in real time -what an efficient and productive way to approach the task. Thank you Nina!

Once again Nina helped collect my ideas and put them into a cohesive plan, for a major overhaul of my primary bedroom, bath and dressing room. We had a wonderful collaborative zoom call where I could watch the plans evolve in real time! It was easy to make suggestions
and have Nina tweak the plans. Nina has worked with my general contractor before, so she knew how to speak "his language". I am so happy with my kitchen remodel, I cannot wait to see how the bathroom turns out! -
Made my dream come true!
After years of dreaming and imaging how we wished to transform an out-of-date 2 bedroom/2.5 bath into a 4 bedroom/3 bath with extra functional spaces like sitting rooms, exercise room and root cellar, we finally did it with the unwavering, patient and creative help of Nina! She came to the table with not only knowledge and experience but awesome computer skills which translate to quick and precise renderings and solutions to each and every detail. I wish I wouldve found her earlier as we wasted a bit of time and energy with our first architect only to be told my roofline (of the main addition) would be a mistake. Boy was he wrong!
Our home is stunning! And not in an opulent way but a harmonious way. Thank you Nina for listening and translating to paper our most comfortable home with beautiful details. -
Nina designed a garage/shop addition for us in 2020. The plans were approved by Skagit Co quickly and the final result looks seamless. Great work Nina, I highly recommend your firm and expertise to anyone looking to do a remodel or new build.

Nina has been helping me with a home remodeling project. This is no ordinary undertaking, to say the least. There are many constraints due to the current layout of the building which resulted from several changes for the past dozen of decades.
She swiftly tackled these challenges and her design recommendations spoke for a great deal of skills and experience - we ended up with practical and refreshing design, while still preserving the home's historical characters.
Lastly, Nina has always been effective and efficient in coordinating with engineering and city's building permit department. Her in-depth knowledge in local zoning and building codes saved me from unnecessary overheads. I'm glad to have the chance working with Nina and won't hesitate to hire Island Architecture again for future projects! -
